of Hawaii. With 10 of the world’s 14 climate zones right here on our island, our variety of timber is
some of the most robust in the world — from Koa, Mango, and Monkey Pod, to Ironwood, Sugi,
and Jacaranda. We mill more than 30 species of wood, so every project you embark on can truly be unique.

Chocolate Albizia is an invasive species, with a soft wood. It typically has a chocolatey-brown colored heartwood, with highly contrasting straw colored sapwood. Formosan Koa is an introduced species, with hardwood. It typically has a dark chocolate brown colored heartwood, with caramel-colored sapwood. Though this species of Koa originates from a different part of the world (Taiwan), its appearance is very similar to Hawaiian Koa wood. Limited stock available. Cuban Mahogany

The Cuban Mahogany we have in stock is old-growth wood that was salvaged from hurricanes in Key West, Florida. It is our only species grown outside the Island of Hawaii. Cuban mahogany is renowned for its dimensional stability, making it an excellent choice for guitar and ukulele necks. As a premium tonal wood, this species exhibits a perfectly balanced tone with pronounced lower-mids and appealing high-ends. This species also has a unique feature known as “chatoyancy”, which is a light-refracting effect. Typical dimensions range from 8″ to 24″ in width and 6′ to 12′ in length and 4/4, 6/4 and 8/4 in thickness

Koa is a cherished & endemic species, only found in Hawaii. Its wood is very hard. Koa typically has multicolored heartwood with various shades of golden to dark brown. Prices vary depending on the amount of figure in the wood. Koa is popular for building furniture, instruments and food vessels. Koa was used traditionally in Hawaii to build outrigger canoes and surfboards. Available in standard lumber sizes. Available as turning blanks for pens, pool cues, and knife handles. Macadamia is an introduced species, with moderately hard wood. It typically has a reddish dark brown colored heartwood with occasional lavender and pink tones. Mango is an introduced species, with moderately hard wood. It typically has a light blonde colored heartwood, but can develop a darker tan color (known as “Chocolate heart mango” – pictured to the left). Mango can occasionally include yellow or pink streaks. Known for having nice ribbon grain, mango wood is very popular for various kinds of woodworking. Ukulele and Guitar neck blanks available. Extra large slabs available. Monkeypod is an introduced species, with hardwood. It typically has a dark brown colored heartwood, with notably contrasting pale beige sapwood. Grain is linear with heartwood and sapwood clearly defined from one another. Monkeypod is extremely popular for its combination of durability and aesthetics. Available in bowl blanks.
